Dr. Sheftel received his dermatology specialty training at the University of Arizona after an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Syracuse University in 1984, where he achieved academic honors as a member of the prestigious Honor Society of Phi Beta Kappa Epsilon, and in 1988, graduated from the Medical College of Ohio.
Board certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has specialized training and certification in surgical oncology, laser surgery, skin laser resurfacing, hair transplantation, and sclerotherapy.
Dr. Sheftel has authored many scientific articles including publication in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and has lectured at national meetings.
Dr. Sheftel has held various leadership positions in organized medicine: Chair of the Resident Physician Section of the American Academy of Dermatology, Chair of the National Consortium of Resident Physician Organizations, President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Tucson Dermatological Society, President of the Arizona Medical Society, Section Chief of Dermatology at Tucson Medical Center, and National Representative to the American Medical Association in Dermatology.
